Top 10 Awesome Monopoly Variations
October 7, 2007 8:12 pm Arts & EntertainmentHere are ten different forms of Monopoly I’d like to see. While obviously these entries won’t include every single detail of its variant, I’ll try to include what would make their alterations significant.
10. Computeropoly
With tokens such as a monitor and a floppy disk, Computer-opoly could have spaces such as what companies make up the software industry. Properties may be replaced with Microsoft as the expensive area, , and IBM could be the Yellow spaces, or something. Also, a utility could be computer repair and Chance and Community Chest would be replaced with Tech Support.
9. Mediopoly
Another version could be in the form of controlling the media. The Internet, television, print press, etc. may correspond to the different colored property collections. Different icons for Mediopoly may consist of a press hat, camera, and a rolled-up newspaper. The utility properties may possibly be power sources.
8. Cakeopoly
This idea is crazy enough, that it just might work. The properties would be different parts of the cake, such as cake mix and frosting. I have no idea what the tokens would be, but the utilities could perhaps be an oven and timer, whereas the railroads would be replaced with a bowl, egg beaters, spatula, and measuring cups, respectively.
7. Bodyopoly
To have a monopoly game based upon the Human Body would be interesting to play. Property groups could represent different systems of the body, such as circulatory and digestive systems. I’d like to see tokens such as a brain, stomach, and maybe an eyeball. Going to jail may be replaced with “exiting the body” through excretion.
6. Star Wars: Episode III -opoly
Another interesting gametype might be founded upon Revenge of the Sith alone. It was my favorite of the six movies, and thought it would be interesting to have the property groups founded upon the planets visited in just episode 3, along with the tokens as characters seen in it.
5. Reversopoly
Played entirely backwards, reversopoly would have all the same qualities as the original Monopoly, however, pieces would move in a counterclockwise direction. Another potentially interesting aspect of this game mode could be to win with the least amount of money, properties, etc.
4. Googopoly
With a monopoly game derived from the most powerful Internet search engine in existence, property squares might be acquisitions such as YouTube and DoubleClick. “Go” could be replaced by “Logging On” and jail may possibly stand for “Shutting Down”. Google’s Googleplex might replace hotels, while the green houses might just be computers.
3. Earthopoly
In this monopoly alteration, the property clusters would be arranged as continents, the dark purple ones could be Antarctica, and so on. Specifically, I’d like to see the four railroads replaced with the four oceans. One more feature that may be interesting is seeing natural disasters like volcanoes and earthquakes cause fines and fees for the chance and community chest.
2. Waropoly
Seeing different strategic battlefields as different properties and positions can be refreshing. Railroads could be swapped with vehicles like a tank and a fighter jet. Weapons could substitute tokens such as a machine gun and a grenade.
1. Halopoly
My all-time fantasy pick to see created would have to be based on Bungie’s Halo Series. Obvious tokens would be the Master Chief (red, blue, or single player green) and The Arbiter. For example, the Railroads could be replaced by the vehicles like the Warthog and the Scorpion. Levels played on in-game such as New Mombasa and Halo-Installation 04 could represent property groups.
