Top 10 Reasons Greed is Favorable

Is greed really as bad as most make it out to be?

10. Fuels competition
Greed gives companies a chance to “one-up” each other, so to speak, and be the first to create the next big thing, race to the finish, perform well in the stock market, etc.

9. Encourages capitalistic ideals
Greed allows people to make more money through capitalistic foundations such as private ownership, and basic free market concepts like pricing and income.

8. Serving the Greater Good
While some may argue against the fact that Bill Gates and Mother Theresa were completely different, their ideals were very similar. They both helped many people, economically and spiritually. They also want to make the world a better place to live in through charity, such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

7. Stimulates the passion in life
Along with the human and economic factors, emotional displays play a part too. Without Greed, we would not desire to win at games, or succeed at work, etc.

6. Amplifies productivity
Greed can motivate companies and manufacturers alike to increase the amount of goods available for purchase. Since there is more competition, our society benefits from companies competing with each other and we can own the best product available.

5. Increases wealth
While increasing your wealth is similar to greed, more income means more possibilities. With more money, you can give more to charity, or you can fund projects and give back to the community through philanthropy.

4. Gives people goals
While some would argue that goals are comparable to enlightened self-interest, the fact of the matter is that there is not much difference between those two and greed. Goals are good for just about anyone, as they can give people direction and motivation.

3. Raises the incentive to create and innovate
With greed, more people and groups are driven to make the world a better and easier place to live, as money can be an extra motivating factor and “reward” for a job well done.

2. Creates Jobs
Due to the nature of Greed-driven capitalism, the economy becomes stronger, which therefore results in more company motivation and job creation. The more power companies have, the more wealth they generate, thus more opportunities are created for people to work with them.

1. Provides a desire to succeed
Although raising people’s egos is often portrayed in a negative light, it can do wonders for our mental health and motivating factors. While many people do not use material goods as inspirational tools, some extra cash can be thought of as a bonus for a job well done, and where is the harm in that?

[…] recently wrote an article on my website about this subject: Top 10 Reasons Greed is Favorable I know greed has some negativity attached to it, but I wanted to emphasize on its positives. […]

That’s a pretty cool way to look at it! I enjoyed reading this one! I don’t think that greed is the best word for some of these though since the word greed has the connotation of someone having tons of money and keeping it all for themselves like SCROOGE! And for guys like Bill Gates I don’t think they’re “GREEDY”, they’re just really smart business people who take pride in making lots of money and gives them a sense of accomplishment but if they were truly greedy they wouldn’t give any money away!
