Top 10 Reasons Politicians Suck

8:30 pm Politics & History

Is anyone else sick of modern-day elections and the political games politicians play?

10. Corruption
Ranging from the Jack Abramoff bribes to the Sex Scandals, corruption can be found just about anywhere you look in Washington, and throughout the world.

9. Hypocrisy
It’s pretty sad when political candidates campaign for certain issues then go back on their word. For example, Democrats “Flip-Flop” their positions, such as whether or not to support invading Iraq.

8. Two-Party system
With a two-party system, Americans only get to vote for candidate A or candidate B. Even adding a third party would not be much better, because the candidates are elected by the parties and have to sacrifice some of their ideologies, to receive the party nomination.

7. Ego Size
Most politicians are arrogant and have an inflated opinion of themselves. An example of this is during election time, they spend half there money lampooning their opponents, then stroll along trying to make voters think they have all the answers to their problems.

6. Spineless
While most politicians are corrupt, many of them also don’t have a backbone. If the media criticizes them, they change their stance (most of them). Also when real danger confronts them, such as terrorism, some of them tend to run for the hills, and may even attempt to negotiate with them.

5. Abuse of power
While all of politics may be a power struggle, once most politicians receive it, what do they do? They increase it, as much as they can. Some are arrogant enough to think that they are above the law, such as Richard Nixon was during Watergate.

4. Greed
These men let lobbyists and special interest groups influence their decisions, even at the cost of hurting the people who voted for them.

3. Two-Ideology system
One thing I do not understand is why everyone must receive a “left-wing” or a “right-wing” label. Even though there are also socialists and libertarians, most Americans do not fall into any of these “categorizations” completely, given that there are many issues with many opposing viewpoints.

2. Bureaucracies (or support for)
The ability to make rules and the inability to dismantle these organizations makes bureaucracies difficult to criticize.

1. Lying & Misdirection
I do not believe it is possible to name one politician who has told the truth throughout his or her entire political career. Some could consider Clinton and the Lewinski Scandal or Bush and the Iraq War two of the biggest lies in recent history.
